When I pulled up at the Heart of Texas Sisters in Crime meeting Sunday in Austin, the first person I recognized was Dave Ciambrone from Georgetown. Dave has several mysteries in publication, used to work with the LA Coroner's Office, and is the Resident Poison Expert for any mystery writers looking for a good concoction to knock someone off with.
Dave and I were the first two male "sisters" in the HOT Sisters in Crime (does that make US hot sisters? Hmmm!). When asked about it by one of the attendees at the meal after the program, Dave told how he and I were behind the table in the Sisters in Crime booth at Texas Book Festival when a fellow came up and said, "You two ain't sisters."
Somehow, strange minds think alike, and Dave and I (he in--if I remember this correctly--Hawaiian shirt and me in my 1880s style cowboy vest and big brimmed cowboy hat) clamped hands on each others shoulders and broke into "Sisters! Sisters!" from White Christmas complete with Radio City Hall quality choreography.
And that is how Dave and I became the first male HOT Sisters in Crime.
